When it comes to photography, I really don't have a niche; although it would be nice if that happened. Shooting anything that catches my eye means there's no label either, I can't claim to be a ________ photographer. In a nutshell, I'm retired and loving life while trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do when I grow up. Originally from Manitowoc, WI but I've lived in various places spending many years in Naples, Italy; all courtesy of the US Navy. For 30 years I was a Navy Musician and was extremely fortunate to serve my country while doing something I loved, all while seeing the world. However, since retirement, I live between San Diego, CA and El Paso, TX. I'm also the father of one boy and two girls who keep life interesting. This photography journey began when I joined the Navy in 1981 but was short lived because my first camera, the Canon AE-1 Program and shooting with film, proved too expensive for my budget; it also cut in to the beer and pizza fund of my youth. For nearly 26 years I traveled mostly throughout Europe and Asia, but did little photography. Finally, by 2006 the photo bug bit again and I eased back in to digital photography with a Sony DSC-TX7 and progressed to Canon DSLR's. I found a good deal on my first Canon Rebel Xsi and was a loyal Canon user for over eight years. Some of these photos were taken with the Rebel Xsi (aka EOS 450D), the Rebel T3i, EOS 7D, EOS 6D; then after moving back to Sony, the A7R and now the A7Rii.
As a musician since the 1970's, I was fortunate to play with incredible people (see Trombone USA). I've found similarities between music and photography, looking at a photographer’s work is similar to listening to a musician’s music. A good music lesson and a photography lesson can be similar in that you get what you need to know, but you still have to practice to improve. Photography now fills the part that music once occupied in my life. These days when I'm shooting, it's normally with my family. A photo in my archive called Red Skies is special because it was the first sunrise my young daughters experienced. It was a special morning in Naples, Italy with my wife and girls, and Mother Nature cooperated. Needless to say, my wife is a patient woman in ways too numerous to mention here... She is my biggest supporter and best friend. Admittedly, I’m a pain as a travel buddy because I'm constantly wondering off and lag behind shooting. My wife never gives me grief; in fact, she's never been anything but supportive, even when I exhibit symptoms of Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS). Without her support, this little obsession would be just another thing I'd like to be doing. 💖
While shooting anything that catches my eye, I especially love shooting aircraft, cars, architecture, and anything historical along the way. I try to get my camera in my hands every day and post at least 4 new photos a week. I also post background info regarding my photos on my blog at BillChizekPhotography.net bi-weekly on Fridays. It is an honor every time someone purchases a photo, it means the world to me. My photos are available for purchase here with many options, just look for the "BUY" button to get started. The watermark in these photos will not appear on your purchases. Please feel free to link to this site; traffic here is a good thing and I appreciate all the help I can get. So that's me, I'm just figuring out this photo hobby on my terms with no clients, no deadlines, no office or desk, just a camera in a bag and time the to shoot!
Finally, feel free to contact me, comment on photos, and please sign my guest book. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoy looking at these photos as much as I've enjoyed taking them!
