I wanted to shoot cherry blossoms in Washington, DC so much that I didn't care about the weather.  Plus, I really don't like sunny days for shooting...  When I arrived at the National Mall, the Tidal Basin was flooded near the Roosevelt Memorial toward the Jefferson Memorial.  This photo kind of summed up the atmosphere.  Thanks to:

- Susie at Facty.com for using this photo in her April 11, 2019 article, "Things to Avoid in Washington, DC."

- Andrew Giambrone of DC Curbed for using this in his article, "Famed D.C. cherry blossoms face long-term risks from high tides" on April 4, 2019.

- Jennifer Billock at Stacker.com for using this photo for position #9 (District of Columbia) in her May 8, 2019 article entitled, "States with the highest risk of flooding."

- Patrick Sisson at Curbed.com for using this in his article, "National Trust’s list of 11 Most Endangered Places includes Music Row, National Mall:  ‘America’s Front Yard,’ musical landmarks, and a postmodern marvel are all at risk" on May 30, 2019.

If there's one site in DC I should have spent more time shooting it's the US Supreme Court building.  Every time a court ruling happens, the court goes in session, or one of the justices makes the news, there is a demand for photos.  Almost all of my Supreme Court photos sell...  Many thanks to:

- Angela Brown at CareerTrend.com for using this in her December 20, 2018 article, "Job Description for a Supreme Court Justice."

Consumer Affairs and Sarah D. Young for her June 24, 2019 article, "Supreme Court agrees to review insurers’ lawsuit over Obamacare payments."

- Jonathan Ellis of the Sioux Falls Argus Leader for his June 24, 2019 article, "Freedom of Information Act: Read the Supreme Court decision in Argus Leader vs. Food Marketing Institute.

Salon and Steven Rosenfeld for their June 29, 2019 article, "The GOP is embracing more ruthless power grabs in the face of huge political challenges."

-Shira Tarlo and Salon.com for their article entitled, "Supreme Court rejects challenges to gun silencer laws days after Virginia Beach massacre" on June 10, 2019.

- Ray Hamel at Slate.com for his February 22, 2019 "Slate News Quiz: Test your knowledge of this week’s big stories."

- The Greek website, Anixneuseis, for using this photo in their February 15, 2019 article, "What Exactly Is a National Emergency? Here's What Trump Is Mulling" reprinted from Fortune.com.

- Elizabeth Slattery wrote two articles using my photos, the first is at the Heritage Foundation called, "Here Are 3 Cases to Watch at the Supreme Court" on October 29, 2018.  The second is over at The Daily Signal entitled, "Supreme Court Is Back in Session. Here’s What’s on the Docket" on March 19, 2019.  Very cool that she used this photo for two articles!

Photo:  Stormy White House

Camera: Canon 6Dmkii & 24-105mm lens

Location: Washington, DC

One of the great things about living 20 away from DC was the ability to shoot subjects like the White House in different weather conditions.  Washington DC is such an amazing place, I'd love to live there again almost as much as I'd love to live in Italy again.  For some reason, putting "stormy" in to the photo's metadata helps this one sell.  Weird...   Thank you to:

- The German magazine Der Spiegel Online for using this in their article, "US-Präsident Trump verteidigt Truppenabzug: Kämpfen, wo es uns nützt" or "US President Trump defends troop withdrawal "Fight where it benefits us" on October 7, 2019.

- Joel Mathis at The Week for using this in his May 23, 2019 article entitled, "Pelosi's words suggest she knows it's time to impeach Trump. Will she act?"  I'm glad they credited me on this photo because I probably wouldn't have recognized it, it's got a lot of effects and has been horizontally flipped.

- James A. Harhish and Ministry Matters for for using this in your September 10, 2018 article, "A Birthright for a Mess of Politics."

This was taken on one of our first family trips to Washington, DC while living in northern Virginia.  There was folk festival happening with bands and other sorts of folklore type exhibits.  I snapped this one as we passed a band playing on the National Mall.  Thank you to Cleveland, Ohio's Cleveland Arts Events, the Cleveland Public Library, and there Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center for using this photo for their September 2018 Hispanic Heritage Celebration poster!

Fake news?  CNN Turkey used this article which evaluates Italian restaurants around the world and chose the Best 70 Pizza Restaurants in the World.  Problem is that they're advertising for an authentic Italian pizzeria in Istanbul, Turkey with my photo of a pizza from Maryland, USA...

Living near DC meant I went there often, when you go somewhere like DC it's difficult to not shoot the same shots over and over.  I would purposely not go inside places like the Jefferson Memorial, look for another way to shoot it from outside.  Thank you to the National Association of Counties, or NACo, for using this photo as one of the backdrops on their US Election Analysis 2018 page in 2018!

This usage of this photo is a first for me, product placement.  I'm not sure how I feel about  someone paying to use my photo and then placing a product in it.  Seriously, I don't know if it's good or bad and can see it both sides.  Aside from that, thank you Rejuvenate Marine for using this photo for your boat cleaning products.

Virginia, in general, doesn't disappoint when it comes to autumn colors.  This was taken near the American Civil War Battlefield at Manassas.  The entire area is beautiful and worth the trip even if you're not a history nut like myself.  A big thank you to Ready Jet Private Jet Charter for using this photo in December 2018 on their Manassas Homepage!

A childhood friend was kind enough to drive me around northern Wisconsin for the day so I could do nothing but be on the lookout for photo subjects, pretty cool!  It was like Driving Miss Lazy, he did all the work and I stared out the window...  Thanks to pianist Thomas Baynton for using my photo of a rusted 1940 DeSoto sitting on the side of the road near Algoma, WI for the cover of his album, After the Crash is available on SpotifyiTunes, and Amazon!

User: Onet Podróże

Used: June 8, 2018

Camera: Canon T3i & 10-22mm lens

Location: Calabria, Italy

One of the earliest photo here, from 2013 and taken with a Canon T3i!  I learned so much on the T3i that I'm considering one for my daughter as I'd think they'd be a steal at this point.  It's a decent camera, durable, plus takes the Canon's EF and EF-s lenses.  This was taken on an empty beach in Calabria, Italy in the month of May before the tourists came.  Thanks to the Polish travel site Onet Podróże for using this in their June 8, 2018 article, "In Italy you can also reach the seashore via a paid beach."

Whenever I travel back home to Wisconsin I usually see a very good musician friend of mine, a childhood friend.  We usually have coffee and then I take photos of the interesting stuff he has and he goofs off with my kids at a piano or something.  Thanks to him I've gotten some great shots like this one of his saxophones!   Many thanks to Elvy Sound Solutions in Ontario, Canada for putting this photo on their homepage.

The nose of a B-29 Superfortress taken at the Joint Base Andrews Airshow in 2017.  I love shooting aircraft but shooting at airshows has become very difficult.  Now, in order to sell these types of photos you now need proof of a press pass for that day.  Needless to say, I probably will never get my hands on one of those...  Many thanks to the Tower Strategy Group for using this photo in their June 28, 2018 article called, "Without Discipline, Your Metrics Are Meaningless."

Let me say upfront, I have no control over the fact that these folks didn't credit me with this photo; however, it turns up in a reverse Google image search as mine plus this one would be nearly impossible to duplicate, I'm 100% sure it's mine.  I loved living near Washington, DC because it allowed me to experiment with my camera.  For every one of these photos that looked pretty cool, I've 30 or 40 that didn't work at all.  The nice thing was I could just go back later and try again!  Even though they didn't credit me, I'd still like to credit and thank:

-David French at the National Retail Federation for using this in his February 1, 2019 article, "The state of the union? Closing again isn’t an option."

- Susan Reda, also at the National Retail Federation for her July 17, 2017 article called, "Everything you think you know about lobbyists is probably wrong."

- Andrew DePietro for using this his article at Yahoo Finance, "How American Finances Have Changed in the Trump Era" on January 22, 2019.

One thing that amazes me is when I look at the photos of other photographer's is their ability to capture every day objects that most of us pass by daily without noticing.  I have to work at it, it doesn't come as easy to me as it does for others, but that was the goal with this photo.  A big thank you toVictory Cruise Lines for using this on their destination page for Green Bay, WI in January 2018.

Shipbuilders Credit Union

Shipbuilders Credit Union in my hometown of Manitowoc, WI used five photos on various pages of their website!  I'm incredibly proud whenever my photos are used back home but five at one site is pretty awesome.  Thank you so  much!

This pelican hands out at the pier at Oceanside, CA and loves to be fed by people who buy fish to feed him.  I didn't buy fish, he wanted fish and I only wanted his photo, he hated me so this was as close as I could get...  Thanks to the City of Oceanside for including this photo on their Visit Oceanside homepage in February 2019!  Truth be told, I've always really liked this this photo, it just seemed cool the way the bird is looking at the camera.

I was in Norfolk, VA a couple of years ago and had a couple of days to kill.  Since I was by myself, I could get up early to shoot and not wake everyone up, the goal was common items.  While door stops may not be common in America, they were very common years ago...  Many thanks to:

Reader's Digest for using this photo at their website for a June 2018 article by Taylor Markarian called "13 Haunted House Mysteries No One Can Explain."

Some Jews believe putting stones on a grave keeps the soul in this world while others believe they keep demons from getting into the graves. A stone does not die like flowers and can symbolize the permanence of memory and legacy.  Many thanks to Dr. Neil Gillman and My Jewish Learning for using this photo in the article, "The Afterlife in Judaism: Modern Liturgical Reforms."
